Anne Ayres | Biography, Sisterhood, & Facts | Britannica

Anne Ayres, the first American Protestant religious, who cofounded a sisterhood in the Protestant Episcopal Church. Dedicated to social service, her Sisterhood of the Holy Communion served the poor and conducted a parish school and infirmary. The order persisted until 1940.
